Post Graduate diploma in Actuarial Science (PGDAS) was started by Bishop Heber College with the assistance of LIC and IAI (Institute of Actuaries of India) in the year 1991. Hence we are the pioneer in offering actuarial science program in Asia. The emerging trend in Insurance, its increasing scope and the need for actuarial professionals has made the actuarial studies an attractive one. The college has decided to start a master degree program, M.Sc., having the syllabus of CT series paper of Institute of Actuaries of India. This the PG department of actuarial science, emerged as an independent department, has offered M.Sc., program in actuarial science 2002. Further from June 2012 onwards the college has obtained approval from Bharathidasan University to start B.Sc., Actuarial Mathematical Science and the program has started in June 2013 running successfully.
In connection with the vision statement of our esteemed Institution, we the Actuarial Science Department import the absolute relevant knowledge to all. Especially the department takes care of the poor, the needy and the under-privileged students to reach their expected level.
Actuaries are professionals so they need to be shaped and polished properly by means of imparting in depth and strong foundation in the fields of Mathematics, Probability Theory, Statistics, Finance, Economics and Computer Science. This transformation enables them to come out like flying colours and shine in their life as true actuaries.
