Under Graduate Programme

It is with special focus on Public Administration and the Working of the Indian Constitution. The Department offers Tourism as a Skill-based Course.

This undergraduate programme provides an excellent background for those who want to graduate in the professional schools like business, management and law.

Apart from the regular Core Course like Poetry, Drama, Prose, Fiction, Indian Writing in English, Shakespeare, New Literatures, Literary forms etc., Grammar and Usage, Communication Skills, English Language Teaching and Journalism are offered as need-based courses, and Writing for the Media and Functional English as extra-disciplinary courses . Courses such as "English Language Teaching", "Communicative Skills in English" and "Journalism" have taken innovative shapes and directives in line with the current educational needs.

Business and trade are witnessing paradigm changes in a world driven by the sovereignty of Information Technology. Marketing, Sales, Finance, Human Resource have expanded to larger boundaries due to the predominance of Globalisation. The Department of Commerce aims to prepare the students to face these challenges by making them multi-talented in all the spheres.

The aim of this course is to accord specialised knowledge in the core spheres of Commerce and Computer Application. The students are offered practical knowledge in MS-Office, TALLY, C ++, JAVA, Internet and Web designing. This course provides dual benefits as the curriculum incorporates Commerce and Computer related subjects which provides a holistic development.

The course aims at explaining the business environment in which the public and private sectors operate. It helps students to develop decision making ability in real time business situations. It also focuses on developing operational and analytical skills in students to tackle business problems in different sectors. The students are required to do project work of their interest in the last year of the program, which further facilitates them to develop their management skills in a particular sector.

From the academic year 2012-2013 onwards, we have started a undergraduate programme to provide Actuarial platform for students from various streams. This is a three year full time programme which includes all the basics of Actuarial field, which leads to fellow of Indian Institute of Insurance & fellow of Institute of Actuaries of India.

The subjects being taught under the programme are:
  • Differential and Integral Calculus
  • Algebra and Modern Algebra
  • Differential and Partial Differential equation
  • Mathematical Statistics
  • Micro Economics
  • Basic Accounting Concept
  • Introduction to Mortality and Markov Chains
  • Stochastic Process
  • Mathematics of Finance
  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Operations Research
  • Basis of Life Contingencies
  • Applied statistics using statistical software & Ms-Excel

Right from the year 1968 the Department has been offering an Under – Graduate programme in Mathematics leading to the B.Sc. degree in Mathematics. The programme is offered in Aided and Self-Financed sections of the College.

It is a three year programme offered under semester pattern

The programme offers an integrated curriculumcomprising of essential core courses, supportive allied courses, skill oriented elective courses, inter-disciplinary elective courses, value added life oriented courses, a course on environmental studies and a course on gender studies.

This curriculum is on par with those offered by reputed Universities elsewhere and hence it offers both vertical and horizontal mobility across the world to the stake holders. It is updated in a maximum period of three years based on the feedback from the teachers, students and the employers or recruiters of our students.

Hands on experience, in problem solving using the software packages available as in the open sources, is provided to all the students. At the end of the programme the expected outcome is that a student will be able to take up a Post- Graduate programme or any industrial/public sector job that demands problem solving skill along with the skill in developing algorithms and computer codes or a professional course in education or a business on his own.

The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1972. The Autonomy status to the college has made the department to frame need-based curriculum with innovative core and electives subjects to cater the needs of emerging specializations in the life science arena. The UG curriculum encompasses wide-ranging scientific area which plays an important role in modern developments like biotechnology, immunology, bioinformatics and genetic engineering.

As a core discipline in biological sciences, Zoology is the fundamental subject in the field of fisheries, sericulture, vermiculture etc. The department engages frequent field trips that gives students an on-field experience on the biodiversity of animals, study of fossils and also, they get an edge to the hands-on experience in the field of vermiculture, sericulture and pisciculture. This skill based elective courses (SBEC) empowers students to become entrepreneursin their elective subjects. Well established labs have provided students hands on experience in the latest fields through well experienced expertise faculties.

Students of this programme are taught Anatomy, Cytology, Embryology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Evolution, Plant Taxonomy, Horticulture and Plant Breeding. Students are also trained in Mushroom cultivation and Nursery Technology.

The objective of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is to prepare students for successful careers and for advanced graduate study in computer science, by giving them the following qualities:

  • Breadth: Knowledge of a broad range of Computer Science skills, tools, and mathematical techniques, and the capability of applying them to analyze and design complex systems.
  • Depth: Deep understanding of fundamental theoretical and practical Computer Science, and the ability to adapt to an ever-changing technological landscape.
  • Reasoning: Capability of solving a wide variety of problems by applying principles of computational thinking.
  • Teamwork: Habits of working effectively and professionally on diverse project teams.
  • Clarity: Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Integrity: Understanding how to approach social effects of computing ethically and responsibly, and being committed to doing so.
  • Learning: Interest in life-long learning, to adapt and shape an evolving world.
  • Openness: Ability to participate in interdisciplinary collaborations and apply computational methods in new and unfamiliar domains.

Students in this program explore the conceptual underpinnings of Computer Science -- its fundamental algorithms, programming languages, operating systems, and software engineering techniques.

In addition, students choose from a rich set of electives that includes computer graphics, artificial intelligence, database systems, computer architecture, and computer networks, among other topics. As with the introductory sequence, these advanced courses stress "hands-on" learning by doing.

Biotechnology is a rapidly growing field that deals with the implementation of the latest technological developments for a variety of applications in industry, medicine, and agriculture. Hence, the syllabi of the bachelor degree is designed to understand the basics of biological sciences related to biotechnology such as microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, plant and animal biotechnology which comprises of 140 credits. Students will also get practical skills which required to exploit technological advances to enrich their knowledge for innovations. After a B.Sc degree, students can find jobs in pharmaceutical companies, research and health sectors in India. However, students can also go for higher education to pursue their masters or doctorate studies in core, interdisciplinary and allied fields.
