

About The Hostels
Bishop Heber College provides excellent hostel facilities for both national and international students in a safe, comfortable, and study-friendly environment. Separate hostels are available for boys and girls, ensuring privacy, security, and a disciplined residential atmosphere.
The hostel offers2 to 6 bed accommodationwith room configurations designed to meet the varying needs of students.
Each hostel is equipped with attached and common bathroom facilities, purified drinking water, common rooms, study-friendly surroundings, and essential amenities that support comfortable student living.
Surrounded by lush greenery, landscaped gardens, and peaceful walkways, the hostel campus provides a pleasant environment that encourages academic focus, personal well-being, and community living.
Hostel Governance
The Principal is the Chief Warden of the Hostel with separate Deputy Wardens appointed for boys and girls hostels. Under the Deputy Wardens, individual sub wardens are appointed to manage the residents on each floor. Also the administration forms student committees to give the residents an opportunity in the administrative governance of the hostel. The objective of students committee is to give students a role in the administrative governance of the hostel, so as to develop organizing skills which helps the students to acquire and improve the quality of life into the main stream of the society. For the effective functioning of the hostel several committees like Dining committee, Discipline committee, Hygiene committee, Study committee, Sports and Cultural Committee are formed in the hostel. These committees work closely with Warden, Deputy Warden and Sub-Wardens to ensure proper discipline .These committees consists of student representatives who take active interest in general welfare of the students residing in the hostel and assist the sub-wardens in maintaining the living standards. These committees also make new suggestions to the Warden/ Deputy Warden to improve the image of the hostel.
Leadership Inculcation
Student committees are structured annually to instill organizational ownership, ensuring inmates maintain an active say in dietary charts, disciplinary grids, and recreational events.
Student Representative Committees
The duration of the committee shall be for one academic year. The committee shall meet at least once every month and additionally whenever required for the effective administration of the hostel.

Formation of Committees
- The committee members are selected by the Chief Warden.
- The minimum and maximum number of members are determined by the Deputy Wardens and Sub-Wardens.
- Members are selected from each floor of the respective hostel.
- Every member must satisfy the student representative criteria mentioned above.
The members of the hostel committees are designated under the Dining Committee, Hygiene Committee, Study Committee, Discipline Committee, and Sports & Cultural Committee.

Roles & Responsibilities
Dining Committee
Dining committee is responsible for the smooth functioning of the hostel mess under the supervision of mess warden. To convene meeting once in a month.
- •Smooth and timely operation of the mess and verify the quality of food being served in the mess.
- •To check the menu proposed is followed and take feedback from the students for continuous improvement of the quality of the service and food.
- •To suggest alternatives according to the diversity of the students.
- •That the inmates shall have their food in the hostel premises especially in the dining hall.
Hygiene Committee
Hygiene committee is constituted for the purpose of personal cleanliness as well as the cleanliness of dining halls, toilets, hostel campus and its surrounding areas. This committee shall meet at least once a month and more often if necessary. The roles of the committee is:
- •To develop the habits among the students to keep their surrounding neat and clean.
- •To check on the health and hygiene of the students on a regular basis.
- •To inculcate the habit of regular washing and bathing etc.
- •To inspect and monitor the cleanliness of rooms, dining halls, corridors, bathrooms and washing areas etc.
Study Committee
This committee is formed to monitor students discipline especially during the study hours. This committee takes care of:
- •Progress of students in academics
- •Students attendance
- •Discipline during study hours
- •Making provisions for study materials inside the hostel premises.
Discipline Committee
This committee takes care of discipline activities. It prevents any indiscipline happenings taking place in the hostel campus. This committee ensures to
- •Seek prior permission in case of leave or absence
- •Maintain complete silence in the study hours
- •To prevent unnecessary loitering of students in the hostel campus
- •If any damage is caused to the property of the hostel, the cost of the same will be recovered from the student.
- •If any indiscipline is found by any of the students, the committee warns them for the first time .
- •Thereafter if it is repeated then the disciplinary action is taken by the committee based on the situations that occurred.
Cultural and Sports Committee
The objective of this committee is to bring out the talents of students and also to refresh them from the monotonous style of living. This committee takes care of the cultural activities and sports events of the hostel students:
- •This committee conduct meeting on regular intervals to discuss and allot tasks.
- •To obtain permission from the Chief warden/Deputy warden
- •To inform the students and sub wardens about the events that are to take place
- •To decide the date, time and venue of the program

Admission & Enrollment Guidelines
Admission Procedure
- 1A student can apply to the Hostel only after admission to the college.
- 2Seats will be assigned according to the number of seats for each course.
- 3Admission to the Hostel is strictly on the basis of distance and merit.
- 4Seats will be allotted as per the number of seats for each course.
- 5Both the college website and the hostel notice board will publish the admission schedule.
- 6Admission to the hostel is available to all the students subject to availability of the accommodation.
- 7Students shortlisted for admission to the hostel shall be required to pay online.
- 8Online Payment of fee is through Punjab National Bank at a link available on the college website at fees.bhc.edu.in.
- 9The decision of the Hostel Admission Committee will be final in all matters.
Payment Of Fees
- Establishment fees: Each student admitted into the hostel should pay the following fees at the beginning of every semester.
Terms & Conditions
- The prescribed fee for the duration of the course is to be paid in advance through a Demand Draft/Online Payment. No cash payment will be accepted.
- A student, once admitted, will not be permitted to leave the hostel mid-term. However, as a special case, the Institute may permit a boarder to leave the hostel, but no refund of the fee paid will be made.
- Outsiders, whether friends or relatives of the boarders, will not be allowed to reside in the hostel.
- The admission to the hostels and allotment of rooms will be entirely at the discretion of the Institute.

Daily Facilities & Campus Timelines
1. Rooms & Occupancy
Residents must occupy their assigned rooms and are not permitted to change without Sub-Warden permission. Inmates are responsible for keeping rooms and toilets clean, keeping waste baskets outside for disposal, and switching off lights and fans when leaving. During holidays (except weekends), rooms remain at the disposal of the Management for repairs and whitewashing; personal items may be stored in a designated common room or personal cupboards, except during summer vacation. The Management reserves the right to open any locked room during vacations.
2. Chapel & Prayer Hours
Daily Christian worship is conducted in the College Chapel prior to classes at 8:05 AM and 1:05 PM for Shift I & Shift II. All Christian students are expected to attend, though others are welcome. Each hostel provides a dedicated prayer room for inmates to arrange Christian worship. No corporate worship, religious ceremonies, celebrations, or processions other than Christian services are permitted to be organized or conducted on the College Campus or inside the hostels.
3. Study Hours Decorum
Study hours are strictly observed from 8:15 PM to 10:15 PM on all days except Saturdays. During these hours, all residents must remain inside their respective rooms and keep their room doors and windows fully open. All room lights must be switched off by 11:30 PM.
4. Silence Hours
The hours between 10:15 PM and 8:00 AM must be strictly observed as hours of silence. Any activities likely to disturb other residents are strictly prohibited. These silence hours must be maintained on holidays as well.
5. Library Hours
The College Library remains open until 9:30 PM on all weekdays. This is explicitly provided to encourage and facilitate inmates to spend their study hours productively by accessing reference sections and enriching their academic knowledge.
6. Dining & Mess Timings
Mess hours must be followed strictly: Breakfast: 7:15 AM - 9:00 AM | Lunch (Shift II): 12:15 PM - 1:15 PM | Lunch (Shift I): 1.30 PM - 2:30 PM | Dinner: 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM. Meals are served only in the Dining Hall; carrying food to rooms is strictly prohibited except under extraordinary circumstances. Guests for normal meals are not allowed. The mess serves vegetarian food daily and non-vegetarian food thrice a week. Packed lunches, early meals, or late plates require prior written intimation to the Warden. Entering the kitchen is barred; feedback must go directly to the Mess Warden or Sub-Warden.
7. Visitors Policy
Visiting hours are permitted from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Sundays and holidays, and from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on regular weekdays. Resident students are only permitted to invite women visitors to their rooms, subject to explicit permission from the Warden. Residents cannot engage personal service providers; bringing any college-approved service provider to a room requires prior permission from the Warden.
8. Medical Facilities
A well-qualified visiting doctor is available on campus for consultations thrice a week, supplemented by a full-time resident nurse stationed on all weekdays (Monday to Saturday) from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. All instances of illness must be reported to the Warden immediately. Self-medication is strongly discouraged. Serious medical cases are referred to an outside hospital or nursing home with the immediate notification and knowledge of the local parent or guardian.
9. Guidance & Counselling
A dedicated Guidance and Counselling unit managed by a professionally trained Counsellor is located within the college campus. The Counsellor is available free of charge twice a week to help students and staff resolve exam worries, academic stress, personal difficulties, and social problems. Additionally, the unit organizes multiple professional development workshops throughout the year for all students.
Hostel Code of Conduct
- 1All fresh entrants are advised to come to the Hostel one day before the college reopens after the summer holidays.
- 2The Hostel provides additional opportunities to participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
- 3Residents are strongly urged to participate in both college and hostel activities as these will help them build a portfolio of achievement and get an opportunity to showcase their talent.
- 4Performance of residents admitted on the basis of Sports will be monitored periodically. They are liable to lose their Hostel seat if their participation in the specific activity is found to be deficient.
- 5Students seeking admission to the hostel must read the rules and regulations carefully.
- 6Residents are expected to maintain strict discipline during their stay in the Hostels. Disorderly behavior or anti-social activities on the part of the residents either under the influence of any intoxicant or otherwise, and disrupting the routine life in the hostels in any way, will be seriously viewed. Any student found guilty of such misconduct will be expelled from the hostel summarily.
- 7Residents should not engage in unnecessary conversation with the mess workers and attenders.
- 8Residents of hostels should not smoke, drink alcohol or indulge in gambling of any kind.
- 9Students who are guilty of (a) rude language towards the staff of the College or of the Hostels, (b) assaulting or attempting to assault fellow students or employees or other Staff of the College / Hostel, (c) caught in ragging, eve teasing, etc., or (d) using mobile phone in the hostel / college are liable to be expelled from the College and / or the Hostels.
- 10Students are expected to be modestly and neatly dressed at all times.
- 11Newspaper / magazines from the reading room/library should not be taken to the rooms.
- 12Students are expected to keep themselves, their rooms and the hostel premises neat & clean. They should prevent any damage or destruction of the hostel property due to either negligent or wilful activities.
- 13There shall be no sports activity within the hostel premises, especially in the quadrangles and the corridors, at any time.
- 14No private collection of funds shall be made from students or staff without prior permission of the warden.
- 15There shall be no noisy midnight birthday parties or celebrations.
- 16Ragging is banned. Students are prohibited from engaging in acts of intimidation, violence or abuse directed towards any student, staff or hostel worker.
- 17Use of Electric and Electronic gadgets are not allowed. For the use of laptops, prior permission from the warden is required.
- 18Attendance during study hour is compulsory. The first shift students should leave the hostel to the College at 8.15 a.m. and be back before 2.35 p.m.
- 19The second shift students should leave the hostel at 1.15 p.m. and be back before 6.30 p.m. In case the student has work after the College hours, prior permission should be got from the sub-warden concerned.
- 20Students who wish to go to their local guardian's house should produce a letter from their parents authorizing the local guardian. Students should not take the other students to their local guardian's house.
- 21Students who would like to do additional course/part time job outside the College should get prior written permission from the Principal and Warden and maintain a note book about their attendance.
- 22Women Students going home for weekends / holidays can leave the hostel and also come back to the hostel only between 5.00 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. In case of students from faraway places, the sub-warden should be informed about their late arrivals and departures.
- 23Women students who need special permission to go out for an hour or two during day time can avail the same by submitting a permission chit stating the time, place and reason for the outing.
- 24Leave forms & permission slips should be submitted to the respective floor Sub-warden before 8.30 p.m. the previous day.
- 25Students who come late from College, outings and weekend holidays should sign the late register kept at the gate and meet the sub-warden.
- 26Students can receive phone calls from parents alone between 6.00 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. in the morning and between 6.00 p.m. and 8.15 p.m. in the evenings during working days. During holidays, students can receive calls between 6.00 a.m. and 8.15 p.m. Phone calls can be made through the Coin Phones provided inside the hostel between 6.00 p.m. and 8.15 p.m. Residents should not talk for more than 5 minutes so that the other residents may also avail themselves of the phone facility.
- 27Visitors are allowed between 6.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. Visitors are not allowed inside the hostel premises. No male student of the College is allowed to visit the students in women hostels. Visitors should sign in the Visitor's Note Book at the gate.
- 28Mess rebate is given only when the student is on leave for a minimum of 5 consecutive days. A letter seeking mess rebate should be submitted to the Mess Manager or sub-warden in-charge of mess at least 24 hours in advance.
- 29Newspapers and magazines should be folded and kept neatly after reading in the reading room. They should not be taken to the rooms.
- 30Certain sports equipment are available in the hostel office room. Students can make use of them after signing in the log book provided.
- 31Any dispute with the students / workers should be brought to the sub-warden's notice immediately.
- 32Water and Electricity should be conserved.
- 33Students should put their clothes for drying only on the clothes line provided and should not dry them inside their rooms.
- 34Students should flush the toilets & keep them clean after use.
- 35Sanitary napkins should be wrapped in a paper before disposing them in the bins provided or in the sanitary disposal machine which helps in instant disposal of used napkins in a very scientific and hygienic way without generating harmful emissions. Do not flush them in the toilets.
Strict Statutory Prohibition Zone
The hostel maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding substances. Possession or consumption of Tobacco products, Narcotics, Alcoholic beverages, or restricted elements inside college properties ensures permanent expulsion.
